Screeny is a uniquely versatile and powerful screen capture and desktop recording program that is free for personal use. That's right, free, completely, for personal use. It's also quite brilliant. Of course, while we here at FileHippo.com love free software, we really, really, really love it when the free stuff is better than some of the software tools out there you have to pay money for. And Screeny is really, really good. Just to clarify, we don't mean really good for free software, we actually just mean it's really good. Screeny isn't just another Windows Snipping tool that captures full screen and active windows or parts of your computer screen. Of course, it does do that, but Screeny is so much more. As well as full-screen and rectangular captures, it can also grab circle, DOS windows freehand selections, scrolling areas, menu structures, Windows objects (regions, windows, controls) and an awful lot more besides. Essentially, whatever you want to capture on your PC or laptop, you can. But it's the after effects where Screeny really shines. You can add shadows, border effects, captions, watermarks and a wide selection of other options as well. Screeny also comes with an editor and paint tool as standard, that allows you to annotate to your heart's content, and things like arrows, question marks, ticks and a load of objects that are similar to the now defunct Microsoft clip-art. Your screen captured images can be saved in a large number of formats including all the usual image files and the always useful PDF. Captured images can be sent via email or opened in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Screeny also really shines in one other area, and that's the ability to record your desktop, complete with audio. It's really good as well. Additionally, the built-in whiteboard is excellent for creating presentations in an instant, and allows you to save the files as AVI. Well designed and lots, and lots of options. Built-in editor and paint tool. Overall, Screeny is a brilliant, free, powerful screenshot tool with a huge amount if utility, with a near staggering number of things it lets you do.

Wise Care 365 is a PC performance enhancement* application, which consists of five key elements: PC Checkup, System Cleaner, System Tune-up, Privacy Protector and System Monitoring. The PC Checkup element can check the whole running condition of your PC, grade its health status, and, if necessary, provide you with quick-fix solutions. The System Cleaner element will help you scan and clean invalid registry entries, useless files, junk from browsers and redundant Windows components. The System Tuneup element optimizes your system, network, defragment disk and registry; manage startup & services and context menu. Privacy Protector will erase your browsing history, including viewed pictures, watched movies/videos, accessed files and visited pages. It can also prevent files or data from being recovered by specialised recovery software, and it can generate passwords for you. System monitoring allows you to overview system processes and hardware information such as temperature and memory usage, etc. As well as the above tools, Wise Care 365 also includes a restoring and scheduler function as well. Overall, Wise Care 365 has a simple and intuitive interface that both novice and expert will be able to use. That coupled with some a well rounded out tool-kit makes Wise Care 365 a useful applicaiton to have. *Note, some features are only available in the registered version of Wise Care 365.

MapWindow GIS
The MapWindow GIS app is a free, open source extensible geographic information system (GIS), which may be used as an open-source alternative desktop GIS, to distribute data to others, or to develop and distribute custom spatial data analysis tools. The app includes standard GIS data visualization features as well as DBF attribute table editing, Shapefile editing, and data converters. MapWindow GIS supports dozens of standard GIS formats, including Shapefiles, GeoTIFF, ESRI ArcInfo ASCII and binary grids. The interface is fairly standard and is not difficult to navigate. The default layout includes a map area, a legend pane and a preview-map pane. In addition there are also built-in toolbar buttons that allow you to create, save and open project files, and navigate and print the map. The navigation tools include functions such as pan, zoom-in, zoom-out, zoom-to-selected-layer, zoom-to-selected-shapes, and zoom-to-full-extents.
