MapWindow GIS
The MapWindow GIS app is a free, open source extensible geographic information system (GIS), which may be used as an open-source alternative desktop GIS, to distribute data to others, or to develop and distribute custom spatial data analysis tools. The app includes standard GIS data visualization features as well as DBF attribute table editing, Shapefile editing, and data converters. MapWindow GIS supports dozens of standard GIS formats, including Shapefiles, GeoTIFF, ESRI ArcInfo ASCII and binary grids. The interface is fairly standard and is not difficult to navigate. The default layout includes a map area, a legend pane and a preview-map pane. In addition there are also built-in toolbar buttons that allow you to create, save and open project files, and navigate and print the map. There is also a toolbar button for adding and removing data layers from the map, and a ‘selection’ tool as well.

DVD Flick is a great, free utility that can read various video files and convert them to DVD format, which can be burned to DVD. This can then be played on any standalone DVD player, Media Center or Home Cinema. There are a number of useful tools included in DVD Flick, including the ability to add additional custom audio tracks, and subtitles as well as create a menu for easier navigation. DVD Flick supports over 45 file formats, 60 video codecs, and 40 audio codecs. When you have created a menu and added subtitles (if required) you can then burn your project to disc after encoding. DVD Flick can also read AviSynth scripts, which allow you to do advanced post processing of images using a powerful scripting language. This is a great feature because it means you can quickly and easily access your USB devices from a remote virtual desktop. It's compatible with VMware, VMware ESX, Citrix XenDesktop and Microsoft Hyper-V. USB Network Gate is the ideal choice if you need to share a USB device in the office. Rather than changing existing network configurations, you can simply share an USB printer, scanner or other device on a single PC and then it can be accessed wirelessly from other desktops or laptops in the office. USB Network Gate is probably more suited to a business environment, ideal if you are a network administrator. The interface lacks a little luster but that probably won't matter to a network pro.
